What Are CBD Concentrates?
CBD concentrate is an umbrella term that refers to a category of products made from phytocannabinoid-rich hemp flower extract.
They are made from the beneficial hemp compounds extracted from hemp flower.
Raw hemp extract from flower is purified into a concentrated and consumable form called a CBD Concentrate.

Top-Shelf CBD Concentrates
Are all CBD concentrates created equally? No. But most agree that in terms of texture, flavor, and quality of effect, a well-crafted CBD shatter takes the cake.
However, it’s important to understand that concentrates will vary in potency and quality depending on numerous factors.
The most important of those factors is the starting material. In short, a CBD concentrate can only be as good as the original hemp flower used to make it.
This is true regardless if it’s shatter, crumble, or just plain CBD oil. Pro tip: Always check for third party lab results on concentrates to confirm potency and purity!
What’s the recipe for a great concentrate? Start with a high potency strain that has great flavor, make an excellently executed extraction, and you’ll end up with something worth sharing.
But making a concentrate using low-quality CBD hemp flower will simply result in a low-quality concentrate regardless of how well it’s made.
That’s why here at Mr. Hemp Flower we’re so meticulous about sourcing concentrates from the nation’s top extractors using only the highest quality of hemp flower strains.
Read over the different types of concentrates below to decide which might fit your needs the best.

Hemp CBD Concentrates
CBD Kief
Kief looks similar to pollen or dust, but it is comprised of tons of little trichomes filled with beneficial hemp compounds.
Trichomes are structures on the outside of hemp flower calyxes where beneficial phytocannabinoids and terpenes are synthesized. They’re responsible for giving hemp flower a frosted or sugarcoated appearance.
As hemp flower dries, the trichomes crystalize allowing them to be easily separated from the hemp flower. Using fine screens, CBD hemp flower kief is collected during processing and trimming of the buds.
How To Use CBD Kief
Add CBD to any hemp flower to increase its potency, effect, and flavor. CBD kief is very potent and made almost entirely of beneficial hemp compounds. Here’s another pro tip: kief burns super fast!
The most common ways of using kief include adding it to hemp flower bowls and joints, as kief isn’t typically smoked by itself.
Kief is a great choice for those who seek to add a touch of extra potency and flavor to their session.

CBD Hash
CBD Hash is a classic extract made from the oily concentrated phytocannabinoid-rich trichomes of hemp flower.
Using various techniques that utilize temperature, agitation, and pressure, extractors detach and separate the trichomes from plant material.
The sticky trichomes are collected, compressed, and left to cure or dry, resulting in what we call hash.
The skill of the extractor, technique employed, and quality of starting hemp flower material all factor in to determine the resulting quality of the hash.
If too many trichomes are destroyed in the process, hash becomes hard and oily. If the process is gentle and the extractor is skilled, the resulting hash is semi-soft and has the texture of a very dense, sticky cake.
How To Use Hash
Similar to kief, hash isn’t typically smoked alone, but rather it is added to hemp flower to increase its potency and effects.
CBD hash is highly powerful and roughly twice as potent as kief! Hash takes on the effects of the original strain from which it was made and amplifies them.
Hash is a great choice for anyone seeking a high-quality solvent-less CBD product with high potency. Compared to kief, hash burns better and has a richer flavor profile with greater potency.
Add CBD hash to any bowl or joint of hemp flower to enhance the effect, potency, and experience.

CBD Shatter
Shatter is one of the most cherished types of CBD concentrates because it contains the highest concentrations of beneficial hemp compounds and has a pleasant glossy texture.
To make shatter extractors blast hemp flower with solvent in a closed-loop system. Then the “slurry” is put into a vacuum oven where it can take anywhere from an hour to a full day to completely turn into shatter.
Shatter is typically light to dark amber and exhibits high terpene content, making it aromatic and tasty.
However, depending on the quality of the hemp flower used, technique, and skill of the extractor, sometimes the resulting concentrate has more of a malleable taffy-like consistency and texture.
When this happens the resulting concentrate is typically referred to as CBD taffy.
How To Use Shatter
Differently, though, CBD shatter is usually vaped using a dab rig or a dab pen, but it can also be added to hemp flower joints and bowls in tiny pieces.
Using a dab tool, take a small amount of CBD shatter and place it onto a hot dab nail or in the chamber of your dab pen. Then inhale the vapor as soon as it is produced.
Shatter is a great option for those seeking superior quality, flavor, and effect from CBD concentrates.

CBD Wax and CBD Budder
CBD Wax is made from hemp flower in a similar method to shatter. It’s “blasted” in a closed-loop system and then “whipped” by hand or machine to remove excess moisture and residual solvent.
The optimal result is a concentrate called CBD Wax, which typically has a crumbly, chunky kind of texture that is sticky to the touch.
However, sometimes the resulting concentrate is kind of creamy and doesn’t hold consistent form. This is typically called CBD Budder.
Budder is essentially the same thing as wax, but with somewhat of a less-desirable quality of texture and consistency.
That means it doesn’t dab (sublimate into vapor) quite as well as wax or shatter and also explains why Budder is usually more affordable.
How To Use CBD Wax
CBD wax and CBD Budder are used similarly to other concentrates by using a dab rig or dab pen.
CBD Wax and Budder can also be added into bowls and joints of hemp flower in small amounts to increase potency and effect.
CBD Crumble
CBD crumble is essentially the same type of concentrate as shatter. The main difference being that crumble is compressed while it’s being purged at lower temperatures in the vacuum oven.
The lower temperature preserves more of the beneficial and flavorful terpenes compared to a higher temperature, which would evaporate the volatile compounds.
The compression of the slurry as it purges leaves the resulting concentrate with a texture that has a crystallized sugar appearance.
How To Use CBD Crumble
CBD crumble ranks high in preference for concentrate users primarily for its high quality of flavor and potency.
Compared to shatter, crumble is a bit easier to produce, yet still preserves a competitive profile making it an affordable alternative to top-shelf shatter concentrates.
CBD Crumble is among the driest of concentrates. This makes it easy to work with and is easily consumed using a dab rig or dab pen.
Crumble is also commonly added to bowls and joints of hemp flower to enhance potency, flavor, and overall effect.
Vape Cart
What is A CBD Vape Cart?
A vape pen is an oil-filled, closed cartridge with a mouthpiece attached to a rechargeable atomizer and battery that heats the oil.
It’s a portable and discreet form of vaping CBD concentrate. Vape pens offer a no-mess method of dabbing and it’s also easy to control how much or how little CBD you take.
Should I Use A Vape Pen?
The vape pen is a great entry into the world of concentrates for beginners and you’ve probably already encountered someone using one in public.
If you’re an on-the-go type person who enjoys convenience, or require fast-acting relief wherever you may be, perhaps a vape pen is the best option for you.
Keep reading because we’ll get more into vape pens below in the concentrates sections.
How Do You “Dab” Concentrates?
Dabs, dabbing, or taking dabs refers to the act of consuming CBD concentrates that vaporize rather than combust.
Dabbing concentrates requires a dab rig or a dab pen, and excludes concentrates such as kief and hash that combust into smoke rather than vaporize.
What is a Dab Rig?
A dab rig is a specialized type of pipe or bong designed with a nail that has a flat head used for placing the concentrate to be dabbed.
A flame torch or electricity is used to heat the nail. When it’s hot enough, the concentrate is placed on the hot dab nail, instantly sublimating into a vapor that is immediately inhaled through the dab rig or bong.
This is the most basic explanation of dabbing. Once you get into dabbing though, there’s an entire world of technique, tools, and etiquette to discover.
Should I Use A Dab Rig?
A dab rig usually sits on a tabletop. Dab rigs can be very simple or insanely complex and artistic. The benefits of using a dab rig are generally related to enhancing the overall experience of dabbing and getting the most out of your costly concentrates.
But they also offer other advantages such as making it easier to take higher dosages. Plus, the vapor is cooler in temperature making it more flavorful.
For those seeking the ultimate experience with concentrates, a dab rig is definitely the way to go.
They require the most set up out of any form, but also offer the most optimized method of experiencing what CBD concentrates have to offer.
Dab Tools Kit
Dabbing concentrates can easily become a messy process. That’s why people that use a dab pen or dab rig usually invest in some small dab tool accessories to help make the process clean and effective.
This includes items such as –
- Dabber tool or wand
- Dab torch
- Dab jar
- Carb cap
- Reclaim catcher
- Banger
CBD Vape Pen
A vape consists of a concentrate-filled cartridge and a handheld “pen” with a battery. The battery creates the energy required to vaporize the concentrate contained within the attached cartridge.
The cartridges for vapes can be filled with CBD oil, Delta-8 THC, and other types extracts made from phytocannabinoid-rich hemp flower.
How To Use A Vape Pen
CBD vape pens are equipped with a button that heats the concentrate and you simply inhale from one end of the pen. When it’s finished, you can just buy another cartridge and attach it to the pen.
Vape pens are a great way to take concentrate with you on the go. They offer an easy and fast-acting method of getting relief and relaxation in the form of a handheld and portable device.
