Colorado has been one of the leading states in the legality, research, growing, and selling of marijuana, and due to its more lax laws on cannabis, this state has enjoyed significantly more freedom with CBD than some states before the Farm Bill.
But as the Farm Bill was signed in 2018, hemp is now defined separately from marijuana, and more states are being granted permission to grow hemp and manufacture their own CBD products, including hemp cigarettes.
So how has the Farm Bill impacted Colorado’s hemp laws, and how does the industry plan to compete with new manufacturers?
In this guide, we’ll cover:

By now, it’s likely that you’ve seen the many forms of hemp and CBD, be it tinctures, edibles, or vapes, which can all be legally bought in the state of Colorado. But one particularly popular form of CBD has been smokable hemp, which is convenient and enjoyable for many individuals while posing its benefits. And as we’ll see, it may even help curb a smoking habit.
Benefits and Uses of Hemp Cigarettes
Hemp is a plant closely related to marijuana, except it doesn’t possess the same enough THC to get the user high.
However, hemp is rich in cannabidiol, or CBD, among several other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, which many a rapidly growing number of individuals are beginning to turn to in order to relieve their pain, anxiety and lack of sleep.
Industrial hemp has been extracted to create all kinds of CBD consumables from tinctures to topicals, but many CBD enthusiasts are growing to enjoy hemp flower smokables: specifically, hemp cigarettes.
While it should be clarified that inhaling any kind of plant matter may pose health risks, hemp cigarettes are a non-carcinogenic, nicotine-free alternative to tobacco products. Plus, the lack of nicotine in hemp cigs makes them non-addictive and has even helped individuals quit smoking.
According to research from a blind study at University College London, nicotine-dependent subjects who were given CBD reduced cigarette usage by 40%, while those who took placebos noticed no difference.
Plus, you’re still getting the same benefits of CBD and terpenes that you’d enjoy from any other CBD product, but more quickly and without the digestion process of tinctures or edibles.
Is It Legal To Buy CBD Cigarettes in Colorado?
Yes, it’s legal to purchase CBD cigarettes and other hemp smokables in Colorado, along with tinctures, edibles, topicals, and processed, whole hemp flower.
However, laws are still in motion, especially when it comes to hemp growers and sellers.
Before the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp flower was treated with the same status as marijuana, and for cannabis-legal states like Colorado, it’s been considerably more accessible compared to other parts of the country.
Since the signing of the Bill, though, the US Department Agriculture has been called in to regulate hemp farming, although it also gives states the right to offer their own proposals for building the industry.
The department has at this point already submitted comments highlighting parts of the officially titled Interim Federal Rule, and how it may be damaging chances for small hemp farmers from entering the industry.
In 2019, the department had created a plan that could poise Colorado as one of the states to set the tone with the new hemp industry. This plan, known as the Colorado Hemp Advancement & Achievement Plan, or CHAMP report, takes the input of the entire supply chain into consideration, as well as the input of almost 200 representing stakeholders.
According to Colorado’s dept. Of agriculture, the CHAMP report is meant to “explore the first four steps of the supply chain and concludes with the submission of Colorado’s official state management plan to the USDA,” “address the steps in the second half of the supply chain and conclude with the publication of the comprehensive CHAMP report…” and to develop a blueprint for the supply chain in order to identify legislative and regulatory development, department resources, industry guidelines & areas for support, research needs & opportunities, and central excellence development.
This plan had been scheduled for completion in the spring of 2020, but due to the spread of Covid-19, it’s been rescheduled for 2021.
Choosing Quality: Where to Buy the Best CBD Cigarettes in Colorado
Hemp cigarettes can be legally purchased in most dispensaries, smoke shops, and wellness stores, but we know that online is often still the most convenient way to shop.
No matter where you shop, though, make sure that the brand is reputable, and always check for clear labeling and a certificate of analysis.
Let’s talk about the easiest, safest way to guarantee quality hemp cigs: by shopping online with Mr. Hemp Flower.
When we think quality, we believe that means putting in the extra time and effort to makes something special–even if its just your smoke break.
While some brands just fill their CBD cigarettes with ground-up hemp flower and boast the product’s “purity,” we think there’s still plenty of room for extra goodness. That’s why we step it up by adding kief to our signature blend.
The kief in hemp flower is made up of the resinous glands that house the CBD and terpenes, and while it may be super-fine and light as dust, just a pinch can transform your hemp smoking experience.
On top of that, our hemp cigarettes are nicotine and tobacco-free, making them a popular alternative to traditional cigarettes.
Last but not least, we have unbeatable customer service. Here are some of our reviews from real customers:
“Love this company and every one of their products!! Amazing quality products and great customer service/updates on orders.”
“Good stuff and excellent customer service as well. The total package!”
“These kief and hemp smokes are great. The filters remove all the tar making the experience much better. will order more soon. also, the service is excellent.”
Our customer service representatives are easy to reach with any inquiries you might have, which you can submit here. On a typical business day, we usually answer our customers’ questions within 3-4 hours.
A Close-Up Look: Lab Tests, Results and Terpenes
No matter the state, every hemp seller should include a certificate of analysis from a third-party lab that can be accessed either online, or comes attached with the product.
When you see our lab tests, you’ll see not only the attention and care we put into making this product worthy of our customers, but you’ll see the spectrum of terps you’ll be enjoying.
Here are some of the main terpenes found in the proprietary blend for our hemp cigs.
On our site, we have all of our certificates of analysis fully accessible, and you can see our lab tests for CBD cigarettes here.
(H4)Alpha-Bisabolol-1.31 mg/g (.13%)
Alpha bisabolol is a soothing terpene reputed for its possible effects on anxiety and depression, as well as chronic pain, research suggests. With its delicate, floral aroma, you may have recognized it from chamomile tea!
Guaiol-1.02 mg/g (.10%)
Guaiol is a terpene known for its clean, cypress scent and antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. On top of that, it may also be a viable source of defense against systemic inflammation, which could be applicable to multiple forms of pain.
Beta-Pinene-.626 mg/g (.06%)
Beta pinene has an especially piney fragrance, and while it, too, has evidence of working well against pain symptoms, beta pinene also acts as an expectorant, meaning that it helps promote the clearing of air passageways to help treat coughs.
Beta pinene has a piney fragrance that lends a deep, rich aroma to our hemp cigs while adding to this smoke’s overall relaxing effect.
Trans-Caryophyllene .464 mg/g (.05%)
Found in hops, rosemary and cloves, caryophyllene has actually been researched for longer than many other terpenes, and has been shown to act as a neuroprotective agent by interacting with the CB1 and CB2 receptors to bring down inflammation.
