Moon Rocks

Moon Rocks

ˈmün ˈräks | Noun

Moon rocks are cannabis buds dipped in extracts (hash oil) and rolled in kief. When made from marijuana, they hover around 50% THC (for comparison, the cannabis flower averages around 20% THC). When made from hemp flower, they are sprayed with broad or full spectrum CBD distillate and dipped in CBD kief. They are high in cannabidiol (CBD) and contain less than 0.3% THC. Moon rocks are valued for their potency, so a little goes a long way.

“Hemp CBD moon rocks are one of the most powerful products on the market.”

Moon rocks give you the best of both worlds: high-CBD flower rolled in potent extracts and kief.”

What are Moon Rocks?

They are a premium mixture of CBD flower, broad or full spectrum CBD distillate, and kief all rolled into one product. CBD moon rocks are new to the hemp enthusiast as they first appeared as THC moon rocks, or “cannabis caviar.” This combo of cannabis flower, extracts, and kief gives the user a “lunar” THC experience.

The term “cannabis caviar” may refer to both moon rocks and nugs covered in cannabis or hemp CBD oil. If you are looking to buy this product at a dispensary, make sure to double-check and look for a kief-covered product. This is a versatile combo that yields a wealth of variations on the market. Brands make their own spin of this genius concept that offers a myriad of benefits.

If you enjoy smoking hemp flower and are using it to relieve ailments like pain, anxiety, and inflammation, you’ll love this product. It provides a relaxed pleasure and immediate relief without the high. When smoked, the lungs absorb the cannabinoid and terpene content instantly and enter the bloodstream without going through the stomach and liver.

Where do Moon Rocks Come From?

They first appeared on the market as high THC products. Now, we also have them made from hemp flower. To make CBD moon rocks, processors dip or spray CBD hemp flower with CBD distillate. After that, they roll the flower in CBD kief, elevating the levels of cannabinoids up to 50% or 60%.

Historically, this product came out of the intimate relationship between cannabis culture and hip hop. The two people involved in making this product are a former Death Row Records executive and marijuana mogul Ricardo E. Brown (Kurupt) and music artist Daniel Laughlin (Dr. Zodiak). They met in 2013 and collaborated on a mixtape but ended up launching the first line of branded moon rocks. The launch fueled the creativity of brands and dispensaries to make their own caviar.

Potency of Moon Rocks

When made from marijuana, they hold a large percentage of THC more than 50%. Due to its potency, first-time smokers should avoid this weed product.

The same can be said with CBD moon rocks. They can have over 50% CBD, not to mention are loaded with terpenes because of the kief. If you are a first time user, be careful with them, they pack a punch. Start with rolling a few pre-rolls or take a few drops of full spectrum CBD oil and increase the dose from there.

What’s the Difference Between Caviar and Moon Rocks?

These two terms are used interchangeably, but there is one tiny difference between them. Moonrocks are always a cannabis flower dipped in extract and coated in kief. Caviar may or may not be a cannabis flower rolled in kief. Therefore, all moon rocks are considered caviar, while a caviar without the kief roll is not considered a proper moon rock.

How to Smoke it?

Follow these steps to properly smoke this product. It’s not complicated, but it requires some attention to detail.

Step 1: Break the nugs into small pieces.

Step 2: Pack a bowl of moon rocks into a pipe or a water piece (don’t put too much) to preserve the kief.

Step 3: Light the moon rocks and hold the flame for longer than you normally do when lighting flower because they are dense. Use a hemp wick to light them and avoid tasting the butane coming from a lighter. Enjoy!

What not to do?

  1. Don’t try to roll them into a joint or blunt they are too sticky for that!
  2. Don’t throw them into your grinder! They will completely gunk it up and remove most of the precious kief coating.
  3. Don’t pack the bowl too tightly! The bowl will be too difficult to light and you’ll waste kief.

Final thoughts

A cannabis bud rolled in extracts and kief makes a strong and concentrated product that delivers a high dose of CBD and other cannabinoids.
